Greetings from South West of France and the Pyrenees

We've just finished a wonderful week of yoga, Pyrenees hiking and explorations of the beautiful south west of France. It's summer here, the lavender and wild flowers are in full scentual bloom and the community is alive with people sharing in the wonderfully simple things. Next stop is the ultra green Asturian mountains of North West Spain for our Spain Yoga & Hiking Retreats - just a hop over the border via the beautiful port city of San Sebastian and a scenic 4 hour bus journey along the coast to the historic city of Oviedo - our group meeting place. I'm excited to be embarking on another retreat soon, meeting people from across the globe to hike the beautiful mountains, connect with the local culture and journey inward with dedicated twice daily yoga, cultivating inner strength, good physical health, stillness, clarity, awareness and a connection with all that is...

Beach Posture There's no time like now to tonify your mind and body. Yoga offers many strengthening and stimulating asanas to cultivate stillness, clarity and steadiness. As we strive to bend, twist and hold in this asana the body and mind are made to focus and sharpen. As well the way we come into and out of an asana is as important as the way we hold in the asana. Learn to approach the different stages quietly and enjoy the journey...

Parsva (sideways) Uttanasana (Uttana-intense, Asana-Pose)

Getting into: Stand with the feet together and palms together. Exhale to bend the knees. Inhale and then exhale to twist to the right locking the left elbow over the right knee. Focus: on keeping the buttocks tucked under. Sitting deeper into the imaginary chair, keeping the shoulders down and twisting deeper to the right.

Breathe: Stay for five deep full breaths, twisting deeper on the out breath. Release and repeat to the left side.

Benefits: This pose is especially effective to strengthen the body whilst the twisting action releases stiff spinal muscles, opens the chest and shoulders and stimulates the digestive system.


What I'm Loving

Fruit

Fresh produce at the local markets in France. Sachets of just picked lavender to scent the suitcase, essential oils and floral waters, wild flower honeys, skin products made from biodynamic donkey's milk and so many colourful varieties of tomatoes...

This dish of tomatoes was served a few days ago on our France retreat after we'd been to the market exploring what's in season. Returning to the chateau we sliced them up with fresh buffalo cheese and laid them on a bed of just picked organic rocket. Simply delicious drizzled with olive oil and sprinkled with sea salt and pepper...
