A retreat is such a wonderful gift for the body and mind with so much yoga, meditation, spa pampering, fresh air, walking, stillness, cleansing and healthy eating that the body becomes light and healthy, the mind clear and the spirit strong. We've just finished our November Yoga Cleanse & Pamper Retreat staying at the lovely Gaia Retreat in Byron's green hinterland where our retreat menu is free of caffeine, alcohol, meat, dairy, wheat and sugar giving our body a light cleanse. It was so lovely to see everyone leave the retreat with clear eyes and radiating with health and inspiration...


Upcoming Retreats...

Our next Byron Bay Yoga Cleanse & Pamper Retreats staying at Gaia Retreat & Spa are February 11th - 15th and April 15th - 19th. These all inclusive 4 nights / 5 day retreats include deluxe accommodation, all healthy vegetarian meals & juices, a 1 hour Gaia massage, twice daily yoga, guided meditation, core strength classes, nutrition & healthy eating talks, evening yoga nidra and lots more set in a beautiful peaceful location for deep relaxation. We also have Yoga Cleanse & Pamper Retreats staying at the lovely Sangsurya Retreat in Byron Bay, which is close to the beach for walks and swims. Our 2011 retreats here are on March 19th - 23rd (4 nights / 5 days) and November 9th - 15th (6 nights / 6 days).

The True Nature of Health...

I am currently reading B.K.S Iyengar's book Light on Life. It is full of nourishing wisdom and healthy insights. Here are some words from his chapter on The True Nature of Health: "Physical health is not a commodity to be bargained for. Nor can it be swallowed in the form of drugs and pills. It has to be earned through sweat. It is something that we must build up. You have to create within yourself the experience of beauty, liberation, and infinity. This is health. Healthy plants and trees yield abundant flowers and fruits. Similarly, from a healthy person, smiles and happiness shine forth like the rays of the sun."

This is such an informative and inspiring book. Lets keep practicing...


Sleeping Well...

I'm often asked how yoga can help one sleep better. Many people who come on retreats are so stimulated by their work and lifestyle that they find it difficult to relax at night and sleep well. Coming on retreat is a wonderful way to get into a healthy sleeping pattern as we not only practice lots of yoga during the day to promote a healthy body, incorporating lots of cleansing deep full breathing to relax, but we also enjoy a lying down guided relaxation before bed called Yoga Nidra.

Yoga relaxation for a good nights sleep

Yoga Nidra is a therapeutic practice specifically developed to help overcome insomnia, chronic fatigue and mental stress. It is practiced in a comfortable lying down position where one is guided to bring ones awareness to different parts of the body to consciously relax the whole body. From this deep state of physical relaxation the mind rests and the body can restore and heal. It is such a simple yet powerful practice. There are many Yoga Nidra CD's you can buy and play at home. Many Yoga Nidra sessions are only 20-30 minutes long and played in the evening before bed will allow you to drop into a deep rest...


Strong Healthy Spine...

Having a strong and healthy spine gives good posture, stability and mobility. This varaition of Salabhasana posture tones the nerves in the spine which feed our vital organs and helps to correct spinal imbalances such as scoliosis. After giving birth to my daughter, breastfeeding and carrying her around on one hip for years, I quickly developed a mild scoliosis. Incorporating this variation of Salabhasana into my practice has helped to almost correct this and if practiced regularly helps to correct more chronic imbalances. Practice by holding up the right arm and left leg for 5 - 10 breaths. Rest and repeat with the left arm and right leg up. Keep the forehead down if there is neck strain.


What I'm Loving...

I recently bought an ENSO Clock from Salubrion and am really loving the peace of mind it cultivates. It enhances meditation, pranayama, or asana practice by setting Interval Timers that mirror your flow. I can go deeper into my breath and pose with a mind free from timing worries. There are a choice of soothing chimes of Tibetan or Japanese singing bowls to gently indicate the completion of a timer or alarm. Click here to go to the Salubrion website.

Radiance Shanti Pants

In my last newsletter we said the Wide Leg Shanti Pants and 3/4 Bootleg Pants were back in stock, it was a little too early but they have since arrived and can be purchased in the Radiance Shop.
They are available in black and in ONE SIZE only which is a S/M size. The fabric is stretchy micro touch that breathes and is designed for stretching so does not give way at the knees, etc. The wear is great for travel and will handle many years of wearing, washing and drying,
